A Look into Cyberpunk 2077

Edit: After this article was published, the release date of Cyberpunk 2077 was moved to Dec. 10th to allow CD PROJEKT RED more time to work on Day Zero patches.

There are a lot of new games to look forward to this Fall. However, the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 is shaping up to be one of the most interesting and anticipated releases of 2020. Currently slated to launch on November 19th, Cyberpunk 2077 is looking quite promising with its brutish and edgy feel, futuristic art, beautiful graphics, and phenomenal scenery. Just from the pictures and teasers alone, it has the KSI News Team eagerly looking forward to its release.

With this new game comes some pretty interesting surprises, as well as a rather pricy Collectors Edition. At $200, this version of CyberPunk 2077 might be worth the extra money, here is a list of everything that comes in the box. With 18 items on this list, it’s a steal at twice the price!

Cyberpunk 2077 is looking like a mashup of all our favorite things. While watching the trailers, I couldn’t help but think this was going to be the RPG that we’ve been waiting for. With an actor like Keanu Reeves playing Johnny Silverhand, a prominent side character throughout the story, Cyberpunk has us on the edge of our seats. Things are going to be interesting on November 19th when it releases.

Open world gameplay, plenty of violence, a supposed dead main character with a tragic beginning. Who returns, rising like a phoenix from the ashes, with a vengeance to burn down the city. The pure detail that this game seems to have is outstanding. The ability to see the tiniest little things within a single scene. From the stubble of a man’s beard, down to the pores within someone’s skin. The realism of this game has me in utter awe. 

Let’s take a closer look at a few of the main NPCs, Johnny Silverhand, portrayed by Keanu Reeves. Johnny is a real in your face looking man. Now not much is known about what this character is going to be like; however, as shown in the trailer we know his cyberpunk trait is his cybernetic arm. What they say is that he’s a Rockerboy (similar to a Dungeon and Dragons bard). Basically they are street poets, social consciences, and rebels of the 2000s, so we can expect him to be a witty poetic character to look forward to.

Someone else to look forward to is Alt Cunningham. The girlfriend of Johnny, and was actually killed in 2013. She was a genius beyond comparison, and it is because of that she had been killed. She is responsible for the creation of the ‘Soulkiller’ virus. A computer program that digitizes your consciousness and puts it on the internet, effectively allowing you to live forever. She had been kidnapped shortly after and forced to create a weaponized version. Neither her nor Johnny were very thrilled about this weapon having the ability to kill people. So Silverhand used one of his gigs as a distraction, eventually sparking a riot to try to save her. Unfortunately, the company had everything they needed to use the weapon on Alt. It is also because of Johnny that her mind is forever trapped within the internet itself. Though he doesn’t know any of that, and let’s be frank here, he didn’t realize it was his mistake that caused her to get trapped. By the time he did, the damage had been done and all traces of Alt were lost.

Another prominent character you will run into is Jackie Wells. He is the best friend to our main character and a close ally to you in the early gameplay. He ran with the Valentino gang when he was an early teen filled with bad choices. Now he sticks it out as a mercenary hoping to make something of himself in the world of Cyberpunk. Though who’s to say those choices aren’t still lacking? Morn importantly he ditched the crime scene due to “His Mother finding out.” So it’s clear from this standpoint that he is a bit of a mama’s boy. Much like the character you will be playing, he wishes to move away from the small-time gigs.

Moving on to V, our main entrée! Players will be able to choose between 4 different playable versions of this main character, voiced by Cherami Leigh, Gavin Drea, Kamil Kula, and Lidia Sadowa. Other than a gun for hire, you get to decide on everything else V can become. Every decision affects the outcome of future events in-game.  For example, the reason they came to the city, what their abilities are going to be, or what their defining moment in their life was.

Now there isn’t a lot that can be said about these characters, due to the limited gameplay that’s been released. Though what we can piece together is that they are HUGE fans of Silverhand. They own branded clothing and are outfitted with a bunch of different weapons, as well as gadgets such as arm blades. Which does imply that they are good at what they do, and they have a major commitment to the job. What else is clear is that they haven’t hit the big leagues. It’s known how humble the home of V is. Despite the abundance of tools, gadgets, and weaponry that is found within the apartment. 

It’s clear Cyberpunk 2077 is shaping up to be an RPG unlike any other. This game is going to bring a whole new level of gameplay straight into our hands. Granted there have been other role-playing games that have let your choices affect the character, but Cyberpunk is raising the bar. This is going to be a must-have game from this year. Especially if you are really into the world of RPG’s. From the collector’s edition down to the basic game. You are going to have hours of fun playing in a world of pure cybernetic energy.

Personally, I can’t wait to get the game to meet all the characters! There is still way more to meet, but not a lot is known about them. For now, we will just have to wait and see what is in store when the game comes out. Between V, Johnny, and everyone else this game really is kicking things off strong. Seems like a lot of games coming out are using the likeness of actors to draw more attention to their games, and this game definitely has done one of our favorite actors right. I say hats off to the creators! Great job guys!
