June 2020 7s Spotlight w/ KSI DC 7

Have a look at what Junea??s 7s Spotlight winner, KSI DC 7, had to say to the News Team!

Recently, the KSI News Team had the pleasure of interviewing one of our own writers, KSI DC 7 (aka DCrunk), who won the June 7s Spotlight. From start to finish, DCrunka??s answers were incredibly insightful and well thought out; Showing why hea??s been such an excellent addition to the KSI family. Ita??s plain to see why KSI DC 7 is worthy of his rank as Co-Founder in SL.

As a Co-Founder, what is the best part of your rank? Why?

Being able to give advice and wisdom to generals and officers in the squads I’m over. Passing down the knowledge that I’ve learned throughout my own KSI Experience.

What experiences have you had while rising through the ranks? Any favorites?

There’s always positive and negative experiences. But one of my favorite experiences was just being recruited and becoming an officer soon after. Rising through the ranks of my first squad, Knights SL, and then going to Imperial SL and becoming a General there. It was so amazing to be able to meet so many new people and have those friends to play games with.

Looking back on everything you’ve accomplished so far, would you do anything differently?

There are a few things I’d do differently, knowing what I know now. Hindsight is always 20/20, and thinking back now. I think things could’ve gone differently at a few different points in my KSI Career, and it’s always interesting to think about the path not taken.

Who was your role model as a a??youngera?? officer (i.e. SSGT, LT, CPT)? And who is your role model now?

I’ve had a couple of role models, initially it was KSI Grifful 7. He helped mold me, taught me about he inner workings of Clan Ops, how and why you have to control your emotions and tone of voice in party. Grifful was always brutally honest with me, even if sometimes it hurt. I always knew exactly what Grifful was trying to say, and I appreciated him immensely for that. KSI Skarzx 77 has also a mentor been for me. Skarzx has passed down a lot of knowledge and given me insight on several situations. He’s always welcoming to anyone who joined his party, regardless of rank. Skarzx has always been there for me to bounce ideas off of and ask advice from.

Present-day, one of my role models in KSI Swag 77. He always listens to every voice and every opinion he can on an issue. A true practitioner of the Open Door Policy.

KSI Kakashii 77 was one of my initial trainers and is now a fellow Co-Founder in SL. He’s been around KSI for about 8 years and is a fountain of knowledge for anyone who asks.

KSI Rogue 7 was my General after transferring to Imperial and then my Co-Founder after I became General. He taught me how to be a good Gen and a higher quality officer overall.

What is your KSI “why?”

I really enjoy KSI and I want to see it thrive as a whole, Department Ops and Clan Ops. Which is why I am a part of both aspects of the community. I like being able to help members and officers achieve their goals, and helping them succeed is a wholly gratifying feeling.

What advice do you have for future leaders? Any tip or tricks?

The biggest pieces of advice I have are to not get caught up on the little things. You can’t let your emotions cloud your judgment when making decisions. Getting frustrated about various situations can be a dangerous thing where mistakes often are made. Don’t get burnt out by doing everything yourself, everything you do has to be a part of the team. Where everything you accomplish is done together, as a team. Otherwise, you end up exhausted and bored.

How do you train & mentor the leaders beneath you to help them grow?

It can be a very delicate process. They have to be able to learn from their own experiences as well as from your own past mistakes. I try to give them scenarios where they can see certain aspects of the same situation in different ways. It all comes down to teaching those underneath you how to understand a situation, obtain as much information as possible, and make a logic-driven decision based on what you know. Regardless of what the situation or issue is, remember that cool heads will always prevail.

Do you have a favorite KSI moment or memory?

One moment I will never forget is when I hosted my first game night. We had a full party for almost 2 hours, even Skarzx and Gifful ended up coming to hangout. We had an absolute blast playing Blackout on Black Ops 4 together.

Have you ever had a moment where you doubted yourself? How did you overcome it?

All the time. The best way I’ve found to overcome those types of feelings is to ask the people you trust. They will always try to help guide you to the best solution.
